Refugees: Jean-Claude Juncker criticized EU leaders
In no uncertain terms the EU Commission President Juncker attacks SPIEGEL refugee policy of state and government in Europe: it is not enough, watching television crying about drowning and hold a minute’s silence.
Around 25,000 people have been estimated in the past 15 years in the Mediterranean lost their lives. Next week the European Council will deal with the refugee crisis. ‘ It is not enough at night to cry in front of the TV screens when people drown in the Mediterranean Sea, and the next morning in the Council to hold a minute’s silence’, Juncker said. The EU Commission will stick to the plans for a mandatory quota for the distribution of refugees.’ Even though we, the next European Council in its place, we will not leave the field’, clarifies Juncker.
Criticism also came from Luxembourg’s prime minister Xavier Bettel, which takes over the six-monthly EU presidency in July.
