Intel buys Altera for $ 16.7 billion
The US chipmaker Intel assumes the competitor Altera for around 16.7 billion dollars. The company is especially true because of two divisions as an attractive acquisition.
The acquisition is one of the largest in the 47 – year history: The technology group Intel buys the competing chipmakers Altera for around 16.7 billion dollars. Intel pays the Altera investors $ 54 per share.
This represents a premium of 10.5 percent to the closing price of Friday night. According to an insider Altera had rejected in April a Intel offer exactly this magnitude. Intel stressed, but now are the management of both companies for the deal. The transaction is expected to go in six to nine months on the stage.
Altera to help the semiconductor Primus to be successful with data centers in the more profitable business. Programmable Altera chips are used, among other things, to speed up searches on the Internet. Also Altera is considered an attractive purchase because the company manufactures chips for telephone networks and cars. In these two divisions Intel wants to evolve, because the demand for PC chips decreases due to the growing smartphone and tablet usage.
